All of us, as individuals, have grown up to be the “go-getters”. We’ve been and continue to ask “what do I get in return”, “what’s in it for me” if I need to do something. In the bargain, we are missing a beautiful element that can keep us healthy, happy and yet receive. Great people (known and unknown) found the entire concept of “go-get” as counter-intuitive and have figured something that’s quite opposite, but works. You know what makes great people great? No?
It’s their intent, ability and the capacity to GIVE.
Can you imagine even one great person who does not give? This needn’t have to be a Mahatma Gandhi or a Martin Luther King. Look around you in your family, friends, and colleagues. Are there any great people who do not give? Hardly.
So what do they give? Money? No, not just money. In addition, they give time, ideas, energy, empathy, attention to the people who need it. I’d say that even a warm smile, a pat on the back is a great act of giving.
Here are some core realities of Giving, that perhaps most of us are not aware of.
Boosts our health and happiness
Improves and increases life satisfaction
Provides a sense of meaning
Increases self-confidence and makes us feel competent
Improves our mood and reduces stress. It can help to take our minds off our own troubles too
Earns us many friends and well-wishers
Improves our influencing capacity
Helps us know ourselves better
And then, we go greater lengths to better our mood, reduce stress, be healthy and find happiness. It’s all hidden in one thing – Giving.
In a true sense, Giving does equal good (if not more) to the giver than the receiver. Giving connects us to people around
Wondering why is the R in upper case? Giving is not limited to Gen-X, Gen-Y or Gen-Z. Giving creates
