Story of Change
Asad* is an 11-year-old child with hemiplegia, a type of cerebral palsy that affects the left side of his body. Both of his parents work in the private sector, where they earn modest wages for their unskilled labor. Initially, the family was in denial about Asad's disability, which delayed their acceptance about him requiring specialized therapy. This acceptance was made even more challenging by the uncharitable and heartless remarks of some relatives.
Now, Asad's mother is thrilled to report that her son is able to perform his daily activities, such as brushing his teeth, using the restroom, and getting dressed, with minimal assistance. He has also become more sociable and responsible and takes care of his siblings when his mother is not available.
The family is grateful to the MindTree Foundation for providing Asad with spectacles, a splint, and a mobile phone, which have proven immensely helpful in allowing him to attend online classes during the pandemic.
“I am so happy that my son is doing his activities of daily living with minimum assistance. His walking balance and usage of his left hand is improved than before."
